Top 10 Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials For Your Bag

San Diego Newborn Photographer

As a traveling newborn photographer, I have learned what items are a must-have in my essentials bag. This way, I am prepared for any situation that may arise while photographing a newborn away from my home studio. Whether I am traveling to a client’s home or in my home studio, these are the top 10 items that I always have with me!

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #1 Light and stand

A good quality light is essential for newborn photography, especially if you’re traveling. Look for a portable, lightweight option that can be easily set up and taken down. My go-to is my Paul C. Buff Alien Bees light and their reversible stand. The reversible stand is ridiculously compact, which is perfect for traveling to clients’ homes.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #2 Table

A sturdy table is a must-have for any newborn photographer. It provides a stable surface for taking pictures, and can also be used as a makeshift changing table or diaper-changing station.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #3 Posing Fabric

Posing fabric is a great way to create unique backgrounds and textures in your photos. It’s also lightweight and easy to travel with, making it a perfect addition to your bag of newborn photography essentials. My absolute favorite newborn posing fabric shop is Hello Little Props. They have the softest fabric I’ve ever purchased.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #4 Baby Shusher

A baby shusher can be a lifesaver when traveling for newborn photography sessions. It helps to soothe and calm baby, making it easier to get those perfect shots.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #5 Portable Space Heater

A space heater is a must-have if you’re traveling to your clients’ homes for your newborn photography sessions. It will keep baby warm and comfortable, making it easier to get great photos. Since I always bring my own space heater with me, my clients don’t have to crank their house temperature up close to 80 degrees, which keeps their home comfortable for them (but their baby nice and warm)!

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #6 Extra Pacifiers

Pacifiers are another essential item for traveling newborn photographers. They can help soothe and calm baby, and can also be used as props in your photos. I understand that not everyone wants to use a pacifier for their baby, and I won’t make you do anything that you are uncomfortable with (it is your baby and your choice!). I do provide individually packaged pacifiers for those parents who want to try using one.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #7 Props

Props can add interest and variety to your photos. They can also be helpful in getting baby to cooperate during the photo session. Be sure to pack a few key props in your bag of newborn photography essentials.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #8 Posing Tools

Posing tools, such as beanbags and pillows, can be very helpful when traveling for newborn photography sessions. They help to provide support for baby during the photo shoot, and can also be used as props in your photos.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #9 Extra Cloth Wipes

Cloth wipes are an essential item for any traveling newborn photographer. They come in handy for cleaning up messes, and can also be used as props in your photos.

Traveling Newborn Photography Essentials | #10 Camera Bag With Camera and Lenses

Last but not least, be sure to pack your camera bag with your camera and lenses. This is essential for traveling photographers, as you’ll need your gear to capture those perfect shots. I always make sure to pack my 35mm as well as my 105mm macro lens for all of those detail photos.

There you have it, my top 10 traveling newborn photography essentials that I don’t leave home without! Of course there are other items that I bring with me and use, but as long as I have the basics I can provide a great service to my clients and quality images.
